NOVA Academy is structured for singer-actors age 12 and older. Occasionally, we receive calls from parents looking to enroll children under 12 in private voice lessons, drama coachings, etc.

In such cases, NOVAA will conduct a brief interview with children between the ages of 10 and 12 to determine whether they are physically, intellectually and emotionally ready to begin customized studies in the vocal performing arts.

Because the augmentation that occurs in voice study requires the strengthening of certain muscular processes, NOVAA will not enroll a pre-pubescent child in private voice lessons.  However, children who are participating in performance venues (pageants, community theater) might need vocal coaching to be sure they aren't doing damage to their bodies and to help find suitable material for them.

Children ages 10 to 12 can enroll in NOVA Academy's Basic Music Studies to learn fundamentals such as finding pitches on a keyboard, rhythms, ear training and music terminology.

NOVAA may offer training to young performers based on the results of the interview, providing there is stable and supportive parental involvement AND the child is mature enough for study.

If a child is not ready for studies at NOVAA, we will suggest alternative study programs such as beginning instrumental studies, drama programs or dance/movement programs that will satisfy a child's need for artistic exposure and at the same time will prepare them for eventual study at NOVAA.
