NOVAA'S RISING STAR YOUTH OPERA THEATER
Rising Stars Youth Opera Theater is a company of pre-professional singers. The mission of Rising Stars  is to nuture an appreciation for classical singing technique and its application to opera and musical theater; and to provide opportunities for pre-professional vocal musicians to perform in opera and musical theater productions.

RISING STAR TRAINING PROGRAM
Rising Stars will participate in opera, youth opera and musical theater productions that will be presented to the communities of northeast Ohio.  Rehearsals for the season, which runs from October  through June, are held on Sundays from 4 - 6:30 p.m.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My child has had private musical training, i.e., piano or other orchestral instruments, but loves to sing.  Should they audition?
Absolutely!  Young instrumentalists do especially well in vocal training, as they already understand the rudiments of music.  Classical vocal technique is like learning another instrument, but with the extra features of foreign languages, poetry and great literary references, and direct interpretation skills.  NOVAA Studio studies will help them develop their vocal technique and participation in RISING STAR YOUTH OPERA THEATER will open their minds and talents to the most comprehensive art form in history!

What if my child is not interested in a singing career---is there still a place for them in this company?
Yes! Though many of our students are very committed to pursuing a professional  career in vocal performance, this does not mean, however, that all our students will choose singing as a professional career. Just like many children participate in soccer or softball and will never be professional athletes, many of our students will never be professional performers.

If many will never be professional singers, why waste all this time and money on singing?

Many children participate in sports and never go on to play at a professional level. The time and money is not considered wasted, though, because they benefited so greatly from the experience. It is the same with a music education.  Music, movement and literature strongly influence brain development; did you know that music  has proven to be one of the most beneficial experiences possible to develop neurological networks for math and reading? To learn more, please read about the
benefits of vocal training. This cognitive growth combined with the self-discipline, attention skills, confidence, poise and love of the arts learned by our students makes the performing arts one of the best experiences you can give your child.  While we provide ample opportunities for students to pursue professional careers in vocal performance, our main goal is to develop young adults with “professional” characteristics. Regardless of where your child uses these skills in the future, their time and effort will not be wasted!
